Little Red Riding Hood
by Pearl P.Pereira
Pearl designed both the fabric collection and this 68" x 68" quilt, which is perfect for a little girl’s room. She pieced and appliquéd the quilt and Lois Russell machine quilted it. Pearl centered the hand or machine appliquéd Little Red Riding Hood on point, surrounded by 1" strips, 4 triangles, and four more 1" strips. You’ll need embroidery floss in the colors of your choice for her eyebrows, nose, to outline her heart-shaped lips, and for the ties on her hood. Pearl used fabric paints to color in her lips and for her rosy cheeks but you could also use fabric markers and your own blush. There are four rounds of borders to piece. For Round #1, you'll piece eight six-inch 9-Patch blocks and fussy cut eight motif squares from the panel print. Round #2 has four simple Dogtooth strips; each Dogtooth unit finishes at 3" x 6". Round #3 uses a pieced strip on each side and a small 9-Patch in each corner. For Round #4, cut sixteen more motif squares from the panel print and alternate them with pieced baskets. To finish, add a 1" inner border strip and a 6" outer border from the cute border print. Appliqué the four flower and leaf squares for the corners. Add your own touch with embroidered veins on the leaves, and dots of paint or beads around the flower’s centers. Remember to add the beads after the quilting is done. To complete the room's décor, make a coordinating wall hanging or cover a 16" or 18" pillow form with the very cute Little Red Riding Hood center appliqué block.
