Nordic Visions, Gudrun Erla’s new floral collection for Red Rooster,
is influenced by her heritage. About her collection, Gudrun says, “My inspiration is definitely from my roots; this is a very Scandinavian influenced line. I love to mix the traditional with the modern and I think
the Scandinavian style of decorating does that perfectly. By choosing pieces that are more contemporary and blending them with traditional looking prints you can achieve a look of the laid back modern style of Scandinavia with the warmth of tradition.”
Her large-scale blossoms and leaves on a ground of black or cream are the focus of this collection. A bold stripe, a print featuring flowers and floating circles of colorful dots, a leaf print, small flower toss, geometric, and little dots complete the collection. The Nordic Visions line has a very modern look and its scale complements the popular big-block look embraced by the new generation of sewists. Nordic Visions also appeals to traditional quilt makers. It would make a dramatic log cabin quilt! Gudrun’s new pattern, Strip Ribbons, which mixes traditional and innovative blocks, will be available in March/April.
The deep black, rich red, and warm cream colorways with splashes
of green evoke the holiday season. Look for Gudrun’s new Nordic
Christmas pattern which features star blocks and traditional images
of reindeer, doves, Advent candles, and holly and berries around a
pieced Christmas tree.
