Carrie-Along-QuiltsWhen people ask me how I get started in this business, my favorite answer is: “I was practically born in a fabric store.” My mother managed the premier fabric store in our area, and worked right up until the day I was born. Of course, there wasn’t any such thing as maternity leave back then so, she was back to work just a few days later. My first real job was designing the displays at that store, and then, when I was old enough I started working with the customers: I loved it! Other kids my age were working at McDonalds, or living off of twice-a-week babysitting jobs. I had it made.
My dad had a real talent for drawing. I loved to watch him start with a blank sheet of paper, make a simple pencil sketch, create shadow and light, add the detail of texture, and turn it into a wonderful scene right out of his head. He died at the early age of 55: when we were going through his things, I found a couple of his sketch pads with various drawings from over the course of many years. It was a real treasure; I still have it. I have worked many jobs within the textile industry, from my start as a fabric store clerk, to a store manager; as a sales rep for some premier fabric companies, to a quilting teacher; as a long arm quilter, to a quilt pattern designer; and now, my first fabric line, with Red Rooster Fabrics. Melding my love for quilting and drawing seemed like the next logical step. Being born and raised in the Northwest, I take my inspiration from my love of God, my strong sense of “Family,“ and a great appreciation for the outdoors. My first group, O’ Snowy Night is the perfect combination of my passions. I know you will love it too! Fabric Collections:Patterns: |
