DesireeDesiree has been designing and painting for over 25 years. She started her career in art as a watercolor artist and muralist. She soon began to paint murals and faux finishes for interior designers. Desiree soon found her niche when the designer would ask her to help transform rooms into fun and happy, themed rooms. From pediatric offices to model homes, her distinct style and animated faces created a colorful, fun and whimsical world. Desiree’s style is easily recognizable. Her images are a blend of her fine art skills and her sense of fun and adventure. She displays a wide range of artistic styles but Desiree is best known for her whimsical creations.
Desiree began her quilting career in 2001 after a family tragedy forced her to remain at home to care for her daughter. She began to channel her artistic energies into quilting after watching quilt shows that she saw on television. Not content to just sew quilts, Desiree knew that she had to design her own quilts. She began creating baby quilts and soon had baby quilt patterns selling in local quilt shops. Always trying to push herself to think and create outside of the box, Desiree began designing and making art quilts. She was soon showing and winning both national and international quilting shows. Her art quilts have been featured in several magazines and will also be featured in a book to be released in 2010. When time allows, Desiree loves teaching others the joys of creating art quilts. As with any true artist, having multiple outlets for their talent is an artists dream. Now, along with her watercolor paintings, Desiree is working in pastels, acrylics, and mixed media. Desiree’s latest journey is designing fabric for Red Rooster Fabrics. Her first line Horsin' Around is due out in the fall of 2009 with other lines soon to follow. Designing fabric seems to be a perfect fit for Desiree with her background in interior design, art and quilting. The murals that she has painted and her desire to pull her colors from nature’s palette were the inspiration for her first fabrics. They are bright and colorful, fun and cheerful. Desiree is enjoying the challenges of fabric design and is excited about what the future will bring. Desiree’s passion is her art and it shows in the things that she creates.
