Chloe's Christmas
by AmyBarickman
Amy Barickman’s vintage designs are showcased perfectly in this quilt created by Laura Blanchard. The 55” square size is extremely versatile as a large wall quilt, table cover or sofa throw! The large pieces used in both the blocks and the borders enable the fabric motifs to be seen clearly and make this a fairly quick project to complete! The 10½” blocks are based on a 7-patch grid. The block center is a basic snowball unit while the corners are simple four-patch units. However, the remaining four units are extremely fun and interesting (not difficult!) to make and you will just love the puzzle aspect of creating them! There are some terrific shortcut methods used and you are sure to be able to use those methods in some future projects as well.

A Needle Runs Through It quilted the project with lovely overall machine quilting. However, this quilt has wonderful open areas that provide the perfect “canvas” for some more detailed quilting if you prefer. The large setting triangles could be quilted with an curvy design to balance the geometric aspect of the quilt OR keep it simple and simply quilt straight lines that radiate from the seam lines of the center to each of the four corners. The unpieced inner border could be easily crosshatched at a 45 degree angle by using your clear ruler and drawing angled lines starting at each seam line of the matchstick border. Work in one direction then reverse the angle and work back in the opposite direction.

Continue the holiday décor by creating just the center (four blocks) to use as a floor pillow and single blocks as throw pillows.

A quick and easy mini tree skirt is included in the quilt
