What child wouldn’t love to have this delightful flannel quilt! Designed by Laura Blanchard, this 49” x 57” quilt features easy appliqué created with fusible web and machine stitching. Laura chose a buttonhole stitch to accent the raw edges of the appliqué but you could just as easily use a zigzag or straight stitch. Since flannel has considerable nap, you could use cotton or rayon thread in a slightly heavier weight to produce a nicely defined edge to the appliqué motifs. Stars and A, B, C’s were machine quilted by A Needle Runs Through It to give added interest and dimension to the design. The broad stripe looks terrific cut on the bias to bind the edges of the quilt. Want to make this larger to fit a twin bed? Eliminate the inner and outer borders and make four appliqué blocks set two by two. Use the same type of patchwork squares in between the blocks and around the outside. Finish with the same border treatment as shown in this crib quilt. Download Pattern (550 KB pdf file)
