June Pease designed and stitched this charming 53" x 61" quilt and Pamela Burnham machine quilted it. The center leaf and stem blocks and the flower and hourglass blocks all finish at 5 inches square. Full-size templates for the paper pieced flower blocks and the leaves are included in the pattern. For the center leaf and stem blocks, sew the narrow stems to the background rectangles, fuse the leaves next to the stems, and machine appliqué them using the stitch of your choice. June suggests mixing the hourglass block prints for a scrappy look.

Refer to the Quilt Diagram to sew the blocks together in vertical rows of nine blocks each. Alternate the flower and leaf blocks in the center row. Assemble the top with the six sashing strips, and add the two borders. Prepare the backing with a vertical seam, layer with batting, and quilt by hand or by machine for a quicker finish. If you like to embellish, this is the time to add some pretty flower buttons to the flower centers. For a smaller version of this quilt, simply omit the sashing strips and the inner borders. Or, make a 15" x 45" table runner from just the three center rows!
