This elegant 56½" x 70½" wall hanging or throw quilt was designed and pieced by Laura Blanchard and machine quilted by A Needle Runs Through It. It features the crane and peony panel from the collection, trimmed to measure 24½" x 42", and framed with dark beige tone-on-tone floral accent strips. Then, Laura selected five beautiful peonies from a coordinate, applied fusible web, and fussy cut the peonies into 8" circles for raw edge appliqué. An 8" circle template is provided with the web pattern. She fused the circles to a 15" x 64" rectangle from the dark green Tokyo texture and machine appliquéd them. Laura also provides instructions for turned edge appliqué, reminding you to add a ¼" seam allowance for this method when you cut out the 8" circles. Machine piece the remaining units that surround the panel, and assemble the inner section, following her clear and easy-to-follow piecing and assembly instructions. Cut the single 6" border from the border stripe. Laura suggests trapunto quilting for the crane's wings to add dimension. The crane and peony panel with just the accent strip would make a faster project. Just add a hanging sleeve and a decorative rod and you’re done! Download Pattern (424 KB pdf file)
