Ricky designed these colorful tonal textures and this beautiful 64" square pieced and machine appliquéd quilt that features them. Darra Duffy Williamson wrote the pattern for Ricky. You’ll find a full-size pattern for the curved appliqué design and great instructions for making the template and fusing the appliqués to the triangles. Next, you’ll piece twenty-eight Log Cabin units and add Sawtooth strips constructed of half-square triangles to complete these 8" blocks. Stitch the pieced blocks together with four of the appliquéd triangles and eight plain triangles to complete the center panel. To complete the quilt top, follow the Quilt Assembly diagram that shows the sewing order and pressing directions for adding the outer appliqué units. Ricky used raw-edge machine appliqué and the blanket or double blanket stitches to outline the curved designs. He likes contrasting rayon, silk, or polyester thread to add highlights to the finished quilt. Use a layer of stabilizer under the appliqué pieces to achieve smooth stitches. Ricky recommends making test samples with the fabric and stabilizer you plan to use to finalize your thread choices and experiment with stitch sizes. More tips for successful machine appliqué are included in the pattern to ensure that your quilt is as stunning as his! Download Pattern (537 KB pdf file)
