Canterbury
by RobertCallaham
Robert designed and pieced this scrappy 80" x 80" quilt to showcase his new Canterbury collection. Terry Munoz and Melissa Reyes of BearPaw Quilting machine quilted it. The sewing is easy enough for a beginner; there are no triangles to cut and piece so there are no bias edges to handle or perfect points to achieve. Use the cover photo to select the fabrics in the 4-patch units or just have fun selecting them yourself. A clear quilt diagram illustrates how to assemble the center and outer 4-patch sections. The barn raising setting effect is achieved by placing light beige paisley squares between the darker center 4-patches and the outer dark and light 4-patches. The 2" inner border and the binding are cut from the same small floral print. Add a little pop by substituting the lively basket weave for this border and the binding if you like. Finish the quilt top with a wide border to show off the pretty floral. For a larger quilt, simply increase the widths of the borders or add a third border. Machine quilt in the ditch and practice your free motion quilting on the outer borders for a quick finish. Robert's traditional design makes an exceptionally nice bed quilt.
