Jean Ann Wright designed and made this soft and warm 40" x 40" flannel throw from three of the four Nickel Blox colorways. She combined the dark, medium, and light multicolored squares from each colorway in a simple two-block pattern that‘s easy enough for a confident beginner to piece. Block A combines squares and rectangles, and Block B combines two narrow rectangles with a Flying Geese unit. Remember that flannels tend to shrink and stretch a bit more than regular quilting cottons do, so be sure to pre-wash the flannel and spray it with fabric sizing before cutting the squares apart. Pin the pieces before sewing, especially the triangles in Block B, being careful not to stretch the bias edges as you sew, and using your walking foot. To finish, stitch in the ditch or tie with embroidery floss or pearl cotton. For a quicker quilt, simply layer any one of the four colorways with batting and backing and quilt. The fourth colorway, a black and white checkerboard, would make a very quick and comfy throw for a teen‘s room! Download Pattern (425 KB pdf file)
