Fantasia
by Red Rooster Studio
This clever 68" x 68" quilt was designed and pieced by June Pease and machine quilted by Pamela Burnham. First, June pieced thirty-six 8" quarter-square triangle blocks. Then, she cut 6" circles, and fused and machine appliquéd them to thirty of the pieced blocks. Try appliquéing the circles with variegated threads that will blend with the pink circles and the blue circles so you‘ll only need to switch colors once. The remaining six blocks without appliquéd circles provide a diagonal separation between the pink and blue sides of the quilt top. To continue the visual separation, sew the paisley and striped borders together, sew to the sides of the quilt top, and miter the corners. Quilt in the ditch between blocks and make free motion spirals in the circles, or take the quilt to your longarm quilter and ask for an allover spiral or swirl pattern. These youthful Fantasia prints would also be wonderful in swirly skirts, beach totes, and all styles of aprons. Or, stitch four of the 8" blocks from each colorway together and cover two 16" pillow forms for coordinating pillows!
