Lisa Moore of Quilts with a Twist designed and made this cheery 66" x 93" bed quilt to brighten the winter season. Happy little penguins skate on the center ice rink and the curved paths along the outer edges. Lisa uses two easy curved techniques here. First, you’ll pin folded half-square triangles to the corners of a square or rectangle and sew a gently curved line near the straight fold. Then, you’ll fold the fabric back along the stitched curve and topstitch to secure the curved fold. Using the second technique, you’ll join two of these partially completed blocks with a curved Flying Geese technique so there's no visible seam between the blocks. Try it - it's SO simple! Lisa’s instructions and illustrations are very clear and it’s fun to learn new techniques. After quilting Meri Penguins, she embellished it with lots of Swarovski Hot Fix crystals and an applicator wand. Lisa tells you which colors she used and where she applied the crystals. You’ll love her tips for applying the crystals with the wand and it’s reassuring to know that you can reposition the crystals if needed as long as the glue is still hot!
