Golden Harvest
by Red Rooster Studio
Jean Ann Wright designed this 60" x 64" wallhanging or lap-sized quilt featuring three rows of pieced blocks in fall colors and two rows of machine appliquéd sunflowers and purple posies. Jean Ann and Jan Crandall worked as a team to make this quilt. The templates for appliqué are all actual size so there’s no need to enlarge them. You’ll need fusible web for machine appliqué and an appliqué pressing sheet. Jean Ann cut scant 3/8" bias strips for the vines and stems, and applied 1/4" fusible tape from a roll to them. She uses a slightly narrower fusible tape for vines and stems to avoid the accidental spread of the adhesive to her iron and ironing board cover. If you prefer to hand appliqué the flowers, leaves, stems, and vines, remember to add a scant ¼" seam allowance for turn under. For a faster project, appliqué just one row of sunflowers and add 3" borders all around for a table runner that finishes at 14" x 54".
