Silk Road
by Red Rooster Studio
Our pretty 42" x 42" butterfly wallhanging was designed, pieced, and machine appliquéd by Laura Blanchard and machine quilted by A Needle Runs Through It. Yardage requirements for each of the four stunning colorways are included in the pattern so you can select your favorite or make them all! The butterflies are set on contrasting backgrounds from our Tokyo textures: The Plum Silk Road florals are on Tokyo’s Dark Plum, the Red florals are on the Beige texture, the Brown florals on Dark Brown, and the Green florals on Light Yellow. Each butterfly block unit finishes at 15" square, and they could easily be stitched into a table runner of three to five blocks. Hand embroider the antennae with a stem stitch, three strands of embroidery floss, and a chenille needle. Glue baste the narrow flat-fold piping to the edges of the top to keep the piping straight and hold it in place as you pin and sew the borders to the sides of the top. Laura has allowed sufficient yardage so that you can include the images you like best when you cut the borders. To finish, try quilting with gold metallic thread to highlight the gold outlines on the Silk Road florals and add some sparkly beads for that special touch.
