This 68" x 78" quilt, designed and pieced by Laura Blanchard and machine quilted by Valerie Schlake, is perfect for confident beginners who want to improve their cutting and piecing skills. The rail fence blocks are 8" square. Each is pieced from four pink, turquoise, or green strips and there are ten blocks of each color. The sashing and cornerstones are simple to cut and piece, and Laura provides good pressing instructions throughout the pattern. The yellow narrow flat-fold piping adds a bright accent as a first border. Laura recommends basting or glue basting the piping to the quilt top before sewing on the middle border. A different color scheme can easily be substituted for the pink, turquoise, and green color scheme in this quilt. Try red, white, and blue for a patriotic theme or red, gold and green for a Christmas quilt, and find border and backing fabric to support the theme. Or, select your own three favorite colors; the yardage requirements will remain the same!
