Ricky TimsRicky Tims began formal piano lessons at age three and has pursued his musical interests throughout his life as a pianist, composer, and producer. In 1991, while working as a free-lance music producer with a little extra time on his hands, he began to blend his lifelong passion for music with quilting. He made a pieced and appliquéd sampler quilt from a beginner‘s quilting book using an old Kenmore sewing machine given to him by his grandmother. Later that year, he discovered the rotary cutter and began creating contemporary settings for traditional blocks as well as designing his own blocks.
Today, Ricky is known worldwide for his improvisational Caveman Style Quilting, precision patchwork, Harmonic Convergence quilts, and most recently, his Rhapsody quilts. His first book, Ricky Tims‘ Convergence Quilts, was published by C&T Publishing in 2003, followed by Rhapsody Quilts in 2007, and its design companions, Feathers and Urns, Baskets and Flowers, and Celtic Fantasy. The fourth companion to Rhapsody Quilts, Desert Visions, will be available in April 2009. Ricky‘s work is frequently published in magazines. He has also won several awards for his quilts, including Best Machine Workmanship at the 2006 AQS Show and Contest in Paducah, KY. His latest venture is The Quilt Show, in partnership with Bernina, which he co-hosts with Alex Anderson. Rhapsodie Colorée was Ricky‘s first fabric collection for Red Rooster. His second collection, Rhapsodie Colorée II, followed. Ricky continued to add new colors to his beautiful tonal textures from this line. Rhapsodie Colorée III features five new textural designs inspired by a recent trip to Japan.
