Robert Callaham

Robert Callaham began quilting in 1989 when he made a Double Wedding Ring quilt. He is a self-taught quilt maker who specializes in floral needleturn appliqué and scrappy patchwork. Many of his quilt designs are redrafted from antique quilts. Robert‘s beautiful work is frequently seen in McCall‘s Quilting magazine. McCall's Quilting has published several of his quilt patterns including: Robert‘s Floral Garden, Tree of Life, Grandma‘s Country Album I and II, and The Best of Robert Callaham, Volume I, which includes five of his most-requested patterns.

Robert‘s Callaham Family Album quilt was juried into Elly Sienkiewicz‘ first Baltimore Album Revival contest in 1993. He designed and hand appliquéd a Bird, Book, and Basket central medallion surrounded by a circle of hearts and twelve appliquéd blocks. Robert has taught needleturn appliqué classes and team taught with quilt maker Margrit Hall, who teaches pre-turned edge appliqué. He frequently uses dimensional flowers, broderie perse, and stuffed appliqué in his work.

Robert‘s Country Garden is his first collection for Red Rooster. His love of flowers inspired the collection and reflects his knowledge about the colors and textures needed to achieve depth and dimension in appliqué designs. His second collection, Canterbury, continues the tradition of beautiful floral designs. Appliquérs and piecers alike will appreciate Robert's eye for scale, color, and detail in both collections.
