These floral and art deco prints are perfect in traditional quilts just like this 58½" x 58½" basket quilt in an Irish Chain setting. The quilt was designed and pieced by Laura Blanchard and machine quilted by Valerie Schlake. The 3" finished squares in the centers of the chain blocks show off the multicolor art deco geometric print and pull together all the colors in the quilt. Laura suggests that you mix the gold and red prints in the basket blocks to please yourself. Remember to handle the bias edges in the half-square triangle units carefully to minimize stretching while you sew. Make a larger version of this quilt by adding a few more rows of basket and chain blocks to the sides and ends of the quilt. For a quicker project, stitch up four of the 9" basket blocks, two facing in each direction, and add borders for a pretty summer table runner. Elizabeth's Collection would also be wonderful in a log cabin quilt. Cut three florals for the logs on one side of the block, add squares from the red scroll or red texture for the center chimneys, and mix the scroll print, texture, and meandering vines in various golds and beiges for the opposite side of the block.
